Follow These 3 Steps To Hire the Right Concrete Contractor

Home construction projects can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to hiring concrete contractors. How do you know a contractor will do a good job? Is the most expensive contractor the best?

A Professional Concrete Contractor Is Beneficial

While you won’t need the most expensive contractor, you will need a professional one who can do the job right. There are several benefits to hiring a professional contractor, including a job done well, meaning that the contractor has the right skill set. Here are some of the benefits of hiring a professional contractor.

1. A Professional Contractor Actually Saves You Money

You want the job done right the first time around. Hire a contractor who does a poor job, and you’ll have to have it done again, costing you twice as much. A professional contractor does an excellent job and saves you money.

2. A Professional Contractor Finishes the Job Quickly

An experienced contractor has done the job hundreds of times before. They’ll finish the job on time.

3. A Professional Contractor Has the Right Skill Set

A professional concrete contractor has the knowledge you need to provide you with the right materials and the best concrete for your project. They’ll also show you how to maintain your concrete.

How To Hire a Professional Concrete Contractor

Understand how to hire a concrete contractor to do the right job. RTS Construction is a general contracting company specializing in concrete installations and applications. They can help you with your concrete needs. Here’s the process of hiring a concrete contractor.

1. Do Your Homework

There may be several concrete contractors out there, but not all of them are qualified to do an excellent job. Check with your state’s license board to make sure the contractors you are considering are licensed. At this stage, you want a list of good contractors and not just one. Also, make sure they have insurance, so if they damage your property, you can collect compensation.

2. Call Different Contractors

Once you find a list of reliable concrete contractors call each one and leave your name and number. Check and see which ones call you back within a couple of days. You want a contractor who will respond to you within a reasonable amount of time. Get estimates from the contractors who call you back promptly.

Check potential contractors with the Better Business Bureau. Also, read online reviews. Ask friends and family members for referrals as well.

3. Discuss Styles and Sign the Contract

Once you find a reliable contractor, discuss the best style of concrete for your project. Concrete can have a wide range of colors and styles. Think about what would work best for your project.

The contractor you choose should provide you with a contract. Have a lawyer look it over to make sure it’s clear and fair to you. If it looks good, sign the contract. The contractor should next provide you with a sample of finished concrete. If you approve the sample, you must then abide by the contract.

What a Concrete Contractor Can Do for You

A concrete contractor can provide you with a wide range of different types of looks. You can have several styles done, including the following.

1. Stamped Concrete

For a beautiful addition to your home, consider having your concrete stamped. The contractor will use concrete stamps to make a pattern in your concrete. With concrete stamps, your concrete can look like brick or stone. Your concrete can also be stained in different colors for an even better effect. Your driveway can look like herringbone brick or cobblestone. You can have it appear like a flagstone or a European fan design.

2. Stenciled Concrete

You can also have your concrete stenciled by using paper stencils that add stone or brick patterns to wet concrete. The contractor then adds a color hardener to the exposed concrete. The stencils mask off the “mortar joints”. Because they aren’t stained, they look gray and resemble realistic mortar between bricks of your choice.

3. Exposed Aggregate Concrete

Concrete is made up of cement and water along with a fine aggregate such as sand and a coarser aggregate that’s either gravel or rock. The effect is created by removing the top layer of concrete to expose the added aggregates. Once it hardens, the concrete can be left the way it is or it can be polished to give the aggregate a shiny look. Exposed aggregate concrete looks almost like marble or granite. You’ll get a colorful walkway or driveway. Because it’s concrete, it's low maintenance.
